PHIL Hughes blasted an historic century in his one-day international debut at the MCG, providing further proof his cricketing re-birth is for real.
Hughes became the first Australian, and only the eighth player, to make a century on debut in a one-day international.

Hughes (112), who was caught behind swinging hard in a rush for late runs, hit 12 fours on his way to his century. Veteran David Hussey made the most of his call-up, finishing unbeaten on 60, including a 21-run final over off Ajantha Mendis, which pushed Australia to an imposing 5-305.``It was nice to get a few,''
